Sennheiser has released a revamped version of its HD 600 series headphones. The acclaimed HD 600, HD 650 and HD 660S are now joined by the HD 660 S2 model.
As usual, these are open headphones that surround the ear. However, the design has been refined, and the new product is said to offer even more detail, especially in the low frequencies. According to Jermo Koehnken, product manager for audio products at Sennheiser, the bass department is what the audiophiles have been looking for the most. The bass department is described as warm, the treble as silky, and the frequency range of the singing voice as present.
Without the movement around the 38mm element, it has been improved with a revamped ventilated magnetic system. The gap should be less and the playback more dramatic and dynamic. The aluminum speaker cone is now lighter, which is said to improve the response and bring hyperrealistic textures to the foreground. The impedance is 300 ohms, so the current trend of mobile-friendly design has not been pursued.
The earcups are covered with plush padding. Otherwise, the black headphones are decorated with bronze details. A carrying pouch and two 1.8-meter cables are included; one has a 6.3 mm unbalanced stereo plug and the other has 4.4 mm balanced plugs. Additionally, the store includes an adapter for 3.5 mm connections. The headphones are designed in Germany and manufactured in Ireland.
Advance sales are underway now and they will be available worldwide on February 21st. The Euro price is €599.
