Defining a new model for the market is always challenging for a relatively new company.
The first model from FinkTeam was the WM-4, which was quite exotic in its design and a rather bulky 3-way floor speaker. One model, Borg, became a success through innovation. Now, for the third model in the lineup, called KIM, retailers and distributors were asked for their opinion. The request was for either a more expensive or a cheaper model, but there was no clear trend. So FinkTeam did what they do best – and did it in their own way.
Some basic design principles remained unchanged. This meant a 2-way speaker implemented with a large bass-midrange in a reflex-loaded enclosure and an AMT ribbon tweeter to reproduce high frequencies. The idea was to find a speaker shape and size that would be easy to integrate into living spaces. FinkTeam decided that the speaker’s height should be integrated with other elements in the living room and it should not be higher than the windowpane, chairs, tables, etc. The enclosure had to be the right size for a 8-inch bass speaker and the design had to be less bold than in the Borg model.
The loudspeaker design has sought to reduce resonances by using a sandwich structure and various resonance absorbers inside the enclosure. Some of the batch filtering components are tailored for FinkTeam, with very small tolerances. The levels of the elements can be fine-tuned independently of each other to three different levels.
