New Neumann supply for monitor speakers

The Berlin-based company Neumann, known for its top-of-the-line microphones and, more recently, its monitor speakers, has introduced a new monitoring speaker. It is the largest in size among the manufacturer's products, which enables the reproduction of sound at a lower frequency than before.

The KH 150 has the same tweeter as in other Neumann loudspeakers, but it is paired with a new 6.5-inch bass driver that is said to be particularly low-distortion but capable of high sound pressure. The housing is a reflex cabinet.

The speaker has amplifiers that are more efficient than before, for both elements separately. The power of the bass element amplifier is 145 watts and the treble 100 watts. The playback can be controlled with an even more efficient digital signal processor. It offers, among other things, phase linear signal filtering and a more consistent sound tone.

In manufacturing, tolerances are ±0.8 decibels, which is promised to be a part-blade-sharp stereo image. The frequency response is also reported to be extremely flat, ranging from 39 to 21,000 Hertz with ±3 decibels. The DSP also enables room calibration with the separately-sold Neumann MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment. Manual adjustment is also possible using switches.

Analog xlr and digital connections are available as interfaces, while coaxial connections are also available. Additionally, an AES67 version will be offered, which fully supports various audio transmission standards.
