Samsung Electronics has released the 3D Map View feature on its SmartThings smart home platform. This new feature enables the conversion of the floor plan of the home into a 3D image in the app, providing users with the ability to control smart home devices such as lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption remotely.
The 3D Map View is designed to improve the management of smart home devices, allowing for quick identification and control of device locations without the need to search for devices individually. The function is updated automatically when new devices are connected to the smart home.
The new version of the map view leverages the Spatial AI feature of Samsung devices such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™ vacuum cleaner, as well as LiDAR sensors that accurately measure spaces and create a three-dimensional floor plan of the home. This enables the user to more accurately explore and visualize the home’s spaces.
In addition, the improved filtering function enables more efficient monitoring and management of devices. During the latter part of the year, users will also be offered a more tailored and user-friendly smart service package that includes artificial intelligence characters showcased at CES 2024.
The feature is now available in all countries where the SmartThings app is used, and can be used on Android and iOS mobile devices as well as televisions. Additional features will be offered through Family Hub™ refrigerators in the first half of the year.
Samsung's goal is to provide consumers with the ability to conveniently control their home devices from anywhere. The company is also working to expand the functionality from homes to apartments and offices in collaboration with construction companies, aiming to create optimized smart environments.
