Two new electrostatic headphones have been released from Japanese brand Stax – the SR-L500 MKII and the SR-L700 MKII. Both belong to the SR-Λ (Lambda) series, which has been on the market for more than 40 years. The new headphones are said to offer rich and deep bass, detailed and sensitive treble, and a clear and quiet midrange.
Both have a detachable cable. The bracket is now aluminum instead of the previous plastic one, which adds some compression force. The finish is matte instead of the previous glossy one. There is a difference in the cables between the models. The L500 has titanium while the L700 has silver-plated cables. The weight difference is about twenty grams.
The structure is open and the element is oval-shaped. The padding cushions are faux leather and the skin-responsive part is sheepskin. The frequency range is promised to reach 7–41,000 Hertz in both. The sensitivity is stated at 101 decibels and the maximum sound pressure level is 118 decibels.
The Stax SR-L500 MKII costs 890 euros, while the Stax SR-L700 MKII costs 1,690 euros.
