ToneAudio has tested The Kanta no. 2 speakers released by Focal this autumn. Their price in Finland is 7,990 euros.
Compared to Focal’s more expensive Sopra speakers, the Cant’s beryllium treble drivers are slightly warmer in tone and, at the same time, more detailed. They are more relaxed and warmer in their timbre. However, for larger rooms and heavier bass reproduction, the Sopra is a better choice.
The sound image is large, accurate, and three-dimensional. The speakers are not particularly loud when playing music. They are able to handle music with a lot of fast beats well. The finishing is praised as being on par with the Grande Utopia EM speakers. The reviewer was also pleased to see that there are more than just basic color options available. The speakers are quite small and suitable for even a relatively small room.
The speakers reach the bottom, but they need a capable amplifier to help them. However, the 91 dB sensitivity per watt means that the amplifier does not require a lot of power. Otherwise, they are not particularly picky about the amplifier either.
