Parasound has unveiled the new Halo JC5 stereo power amplifier. It has tried to pack the performance of a mono amplifier of the JC1 type into a single chassis. As the name of the acronym suggests, the design is the work of legendary engineer John Curl.
The amplifier operates in the a/b class and has a 1.7 kilovolttampere toroidal transformer. Both channels have their own power supply for the jfet inputs. The inputs are balanced xlr and unbalanced rca. There is a gain control on the back panel. The amplifier also has loop outputs and trigger connectors.
The power stages are MOSFETs, and they also have their own power supplies. The amplifier provides 2 x 400 watts of power at an eight-ohmin load, 2 x 800 watts at a four-ohmin load, and 1 x 1200 watts bridged at eight ohms. The crossover can be selected from the back panel with a switch. The amplifier is capable of delivering a maximum of 90 amps of current.
