Tip: This is how you free up storage space in Gmail and Google Drive

The 15 GB of storage offered by Gmail is more than enough for many people. However, since it is shared with Google Drive and Google Photos, sometimes there may be a need to delete extra files.

The easiest way to free up space is to remove unnecessary message threads that contain large attachments. The following instructions make it easy and fast.

1. Type ”has:attachment larger:10M” into the Gmail search field and press Enter. This way, the search will find message threads that contain an attachment file larger than 10 megabytes. Files of other sizes can be searched for by changing the number from 10 to another number.
2. After searching, select the files to be removed and click on the trash can image at the top.
3. After that, it’s worth remembering to empty the trash bin as well. It can be found in the menu on the left when scrolling down and pressing “Zoom In” and then “Trash”. At the same time, you can also check your trash bin contents and empty the unnecessary message threads from there as well.

Here are a few more tips to free up space more quickly:
– It may be more convenient to delete the largest files first and move on gradually to smaller ones. This way you don't have to click through an endless list at once.
– From one sender, there can be a lot of unnecessary and attached emails. Examples of these are news and advertising letters that contain many photos. In that case, you can type the sender’s name in the search field and select all the messages. This way, you can select only a limited number of messages at a time, but Gmail will then notify you of the possibility to select all messages that match the search criteria.
