Bowers & Wilkins updated its 700 speaker lineup

Bowers & Wilkins introduced the new 700 S3 speaker lineup. The third-generation series, the result of three years of development, consists of eight speakers: three floor-standing speakers, three pedestal speakers, and two center speakers. Technology from the company’s flagship model, the 800 Series Diamond, has been adopted for the 700 series. The last time the 700 series was updated was in 2017.

During the development process, the most essential acoustic and mechanical improvements were reviewed, not forgetting the most important acoustic and mechanical ones. The Solid Body Tweeter-On-Top tweeter is used in the four more expensive models (702 S3, 703 S3, 705 S3 and HTM71 S3). The tweeter is a carbon fiber dome element that is placed in its own compartment in the upper part of the housing. The tweeter has been updated for the 700 series. As usual, the housing is made from a single aluminum block, but it is longer, which is said to reduce distortion.

The treble element reaches 47 kHz, as in previous models. However, it has improved treble and new magnets. Also, models other than the Tweeter-on-Top treble are equipped with the same loudspeaker element upgrades.

The mid-range elements use the Biomimetic Suspension suspension system familiar from the 800 series. It is said to reduce excess noise. The bass elements use the latest version of the Aerofoil Profile composite structure. According to the manufacturer, the result is a clearer and less muddy bass sound.

The speaker terminals are now more robust and have been influenced by the 800 series. The crossover driver uses Mundorf capacitors as in the previous generation, but they have been upgraded. In addition, the heat elements have been improved. The Flowport reflectors have also been updated; they are now even larger.

The speakers are now slimmer and the subwoofer is now curved. In addition to aesthetics, the curved front panel is intended to minimize diffraction and thereby achieve cleaner sound. As a new finishing option, in addition to glossy black and satin white, there is also mocha.
